Weird Slipping?

Hey guys, kind of a weird problem. I have a 96 4 cyl. DOHC. When I drive, car seems to run fine, seems to shift fine, but if I try to accelerate, its like the car isnt quiet it gear or something. Like the rpm's shoot up, and the car catches up with them, what could cause this?

i know...its probably some weird slipping....what kind of tranny is it auto or stick? if its stick its probably a bad clutch, if its auto its probably a bad tranny all together.

its a stick.

probably a worn clutch or your you have really sticking tires and your dumping the clutch a little to high.
