can't find info on v6 to i4 swap

Post by projectmx »

I was wondering if anyone still had the link to the page concerning swapping from the V6 to the I4 ... i remember seeing a link once but i can't find it. I know pretty much everything has to be changed under the hood but I can't recall the parts that don't have to go and was hoping the website would help me a little. any help would be much appreciated

wouldnt it be easier to put the bp in to ur 4 banger instead of the v6 and use ur v6 as a daily driver? i've alwasy read that v6 to 4 is a pita , as well as a 4 to a 6 pita..... good luck with the swap though..

ha if you think v6 to i4 is hard try custom modifying the entire rear half of your car to hand the AWD setup from a GTR .... swapping v6 to i4 is easy no cutting no welding just replacing parts, how does replacing one part for another make something a pita?

just repeating what i heard....didnt think u had to change that much going from 4 cyl to 4 cyl....under the hood any way.... i thought u had to change pretty much everything from the fornt bumper to the firewall for a 4 cyl to a 6 cyl and vice versa....other than the disc brakes on the v6 there cant be that much of a difference on the rear ends of the car is there?

well when i did the 6cly to 4cly swap we got rid of PS, AC, and wired it with a TEC III standalone. so if ur keep these ur SOLuck to much s--- to convert these to a 4cly setup.

we replace the rad, crossmember, passanger side motor mount bracket to that of the 4cly. u can keep the 6cly shift linkage for some reason the 4cly shift linkage wont work whe u convert a 6 into a 4cly. when u do what was said above a 4cly 1.6 sohc dohc or 1.8 dohc bp will bolt up. after that ur on ur own. laters

PS i am keeping that and using the GS pump and rack (although i still might buy the 323 manual steering rack instead)
AC its a race car don't need AC :)
I actually can't use the 6 cyl shifter linkage or the 4 cyl either i have an AWD set up now so I bought one from a 323 GTX (cable driven)
motor mounts i have to replace most of them anyway the driver side i have to find an AWD motor mount, pasanger side I already had anyway and the front and back tranny ones i have GTR ones (way beefier) so we are going to find a way to custom mount them since they are a lot better

what about the dash? do i need a new gauge cluster? and what about dash wiring do i have to change that?

we just switch the dash guage cluster form that on the cable driven speedo snice it was a BP trans. the 6cly is that bull s--- eletric speedo.

u don't have to change the rack u can uprage the pump to a walbro.

do what ur doing with the fuel didn't know u were using a fuel cell.
ur good what ur doing

as for the GTR trans yeah they are cable driven use a guage cluster from the 92-93 sohc mx-3 these are cable driven.

the 92-96 V6 MX-3 & 94-96 1.6 dohc MX-3 are all eletric speedo's

all three guage cluster will plug up if ur wondering if they sohc guage cluster will plug up to the v6 mx-3 guage conennters

let me know about the kia speedo because i have a bpt in my gs right now and it starts but still not complete and id rather go that route then swapping the cluster. Also maybe i should try the v6 shift linkage cause i have a 4cyl on it right now and im not sure it feels right maybe ill give the v6 one a try.
