you need the cam angle sensor from a 90-97 miata (1.6L and 1.8L are interchangeable) then you need the miata engine wire harness and the small harness from the fuel rail to the coil packs i think, then you also need coil packs, lastly you need an ECU that can run the coil packs, either a miata 1.8 ecu or a standalone that can control the coil packs.... i have everything except for the ecu and CAS coming in the mail. I have been told due to all the engine work i've done I really need a standalone but i'm sure some people can get away with the miata ecu... oh you should also change the o-ring around the CAS before you install it

thats what i had always wanted to do. the miata makes more power due to tunning of th ecu, it seems well worth the swap. and there are alot more options as far as pigyback plug and play systems available for the Miata harness.

i'm curious to see what issues i'll have putting the miata harness onto the protege bp .... i have no idea if the accessories are the same or any other issues like O2 sensor and whatnot....

i just got the Bp coil packs and wire harness. I didn't get the entire engine wire harness like i had though it was aparently only the part that connects the CAS / Coil Packs / injectors? but i guess this is ok cause i'm about 90% sure i'm going with the Megasquirt rather than a stock ecu and i'll make my own wire harness for the engine to control everything... but just so you know unless God sudennly sends me a couple grand it will be a few months at least before i get everything together and put the engine in.. but i'll keep you all posted

i was talking to a guy from the miata group who did the MSD ignition on a couple of miatas and they haven't been happy with it, so i'm sticking with the miata CAS and coil packs and doing a custom wire harness instead of the bp one but i might use the bp plugs and i think i can use the stock sensors cause at least one or two other people i know have pulled it off

Wouldn't it be easy just to get a msd and coil packs instead of doing all of that wiring harness stuff? and what are you guys going to do to plug the disty hole?
93 mx-3 bp, CAI, msd blaster 2, ngk wires,NGK V-powers(just for limegreen). Pacesetter headers, no cat, cat-back 2.25" piping, autometer lunar A/F gauge, 800w 12" sub w/1600w amp. 3 way pioneer speakers all around

bull crap,Cy wrote:distributors break and cost mega $... and electronic ignition can be Much more accuratly tuned...
they are a way better system. having more of a direct spark for each plug is way better than only haveing one. better performance, better reliabilty, fuel consumption. and they dont cost mega $, and they dont break constantly. thats why almost every new car off of the lot from almost every manufacture is running the system.

FIRST OFF.... ur post makes no sense because it could be read in or not in favor of distributors....Josh wrote:bull crap,Cy wrote:distributors break and cost mega $... and electronic ignition can be Much more accuratly tuned...

So read ur posts before you post them... I was supporting Electronic ignition.. where were you going with that rant...
----------------------------if your post was disputing mine--------------
Distro = 1/2 the cost of a new motor...
Electronic Multi-Spark Ignitions with dual-coils OWN our stock coil and single spark...
Manufacturers use them in non-performance cars or super-high power cars because they can handle a larger amperage when coupled with a higher-voltage coilpack and they're also ALOT cheaper to replace for the company...
-A distro rotor button and cap might cost $40 to make... and sell for usually around $100
-A complete distro for our cars might cost $100 and costs upwards of 500...
