The Wastegate is used to control exhaust gas pressure to make boost. It should be routed back into the exhaust roughly 12 inches down the exhaust downpipe. Some people run a seperate exhaust pipe for the wastegate.

It vents fresh air, so into the interior of the car is best. I run mine thru the firewall grommet on the driver side.

Where is the hole that vents to lower pressure or does it vent internally?

I fully understand how it works as in I know wastegate relieves some of the exiting exhaust fumes in order to cut the speed of the turbo.
