the strange world of VRIS and troblesshooting it (LONG)

Post by hgallegos915 »

Ok i have spent ALL afternoon finding out how vris works and what stages control it... ok so far from vris heaven and a few sites and forums and from what ive seen thius is what i uncoverred.. i DID have a fuel leak in the front fuel injector rail, the rubber was old (the small hose) replaced it. Ok so NOW I CAN FEEL vris numbner one yeah!! and peeling out days are back..HOWEVER vris number 2.. not there. Yes i knwo im not upposed to feel it but i did feel it before and i say i should feel it again. So when stage 1 vris opens..the ecu shoots more gas into the engine..i didnt have enough presure for that stage.. so its there..stage 2 should be controlled by the disty from what i last saw.. I need to do some more deep research and go bug the mazda dealer again. They did tell me the disty controls it.. if vris one is gone 2 wont work. Both flys are opening but stage 2 isnt setting in good. Tomorrow il do a good tps adjustment, check ecu codes and reset disty to the middle. In my frustration i moved it a bit to the top.(even if its ecu controlled) im almostconfident i will find vris 2 back. so turn out its not just the fys opening since there are more factors.

Moving the disty changes the timing... You should not do that. Get a timing gun and reset the timing to 10* and leave it alone. Check the forum for how to set the timing.
The ECU controlls the VRIS not the disty... How would the disty controll it anyway?
You might not feel the second VRIS open and did before b/c the first one was not functioning properly. From what I know the second VRIS siliniod can most definately work even if the first doesn't. Also, you probably felt the second more before b/c the first was not operating meaning a larger jump in power (although still less power than if both are working).

I hate to tell people that they are wrong, but I don't want you to be confused and I certainly don't want anyone else to read this and think you are right more importantly.

If you set the timing and TPS properly and both VRIS siliniods are opening and closing then the car is fine whether you feel it or not. You cannot tune the VRIS by the seat of your pants.

Stoopid question... I know, I'll hit the search but, since you're on the topic anyway... How can you tell if your VRIS is working at all? How do you know when the 1st or 2nd kicks in? This jump you're talking about, I'm wondering if it's the same jump I get when I'm rolling from a stop (1st gear) as when I'm going into a parking spot and I softly tap my accelerator in then out. It's a slight tap in and out, but it feels like when you jump your clutch while learning to drive manual for the first time, except it doesn't stall. Is this normal for KLZEs? And yes, I definately know how to drive manual.

Thanks,
Jay

Check out this website . . . http://www.geocities.com/mikey9t6/car_uvwxyz_vris.htm

It seems to know all there is to know on how VRIS works
