Weather Stripping

Post by mmeers »

I'm planning on having my MX-3 painted this summer and was recently talking to a couple of body shops about the job, and they suggested I replace some of the weather stripping. The problem is that the body shops can't find a source for a couple of pieces. Specifically, I need

1. the weather stripping that goes along the front edge of the hatch garnish (or all of the pieces that go around it if available)

2. the strip that runs below the vertical glass at the back of the hatch

3. the rain gutter strips on the roof (both sides)

4. the base of the windshield strip

Any help on locating a source would be appreciated! One body shop found the base of the windshield strip, but it was $230, so I'm hoping for a little cheaper than that.

Thanks!

I do not suggest buying any of the factory stripping. It is usually exspensive. The Auto glass shop that I deal with has many different weather strippings that they buy in a role. It isn't identical to factory but does the job and only someone that is extremely hard core could tell the difference.

I had my hatch and windsheild replaced when I painted my car and it was $80 for just the windsheild compared to $10 for the bulk. I accually like the bulk stuff better.

The only one they might have a problem would be the gutter. If they were intact I would just have them painted, and not remove them. or shave them.

Thanks for the replies. The rain gutter on the driver's side is peeling up from the front and has been glued down a half dozen times to no lasting effect. So those are the major problem.

Good idea on the glass shop! I'll stop by one before I spend the big bucks through the dealer.

Thanks again!

If the stripping is not damaged, go to a body shop or glass shop and have them urathane it back down. It should not come back up one you have done that.
