K-series upgrade for 96 GS

Post by Mazderati »

Alright, so being that the 96 is OBD2, how does that complicate a KLZE or KLDE upgrade? I have read of the sensor changes that have to be done due to differences from 93-94, but what about a 96? Does that mean I need to get a KLDE or ZE from a 96 or newer to make it work? IM? any other surprises?

Thanks in advance for the feedback!  :)
96 GS, 17" Niche's, Falken 40's. Eibach springs, Tokico S/R struts, Ractive front & rear strutbars. Supertrapp exhaust, K & N intake. Soundstream Reference, JL & Eclipse audio.

I'm sure this has been covered only 100 times so far, but.........

leave your current ECU in the car. Only replace the K8 engine with a KLZE and the JE50 air sensor with a KL02 air sensor from an American V6 model car.

No good, on an K8 OBDII Harness, something like 60 of 68 pins are wrong. I have all the pinouts and color codes for all the K series engines.

My car is a 96 GS aswell, i havent decided what im gonna do yet. I have tried to cover all the bases for when it is time.

I have:
- 97 PGT MTX ECU
- 94 Mazda MX-6 LS MTX ECU
- 94 Mazda MX-6 LS MTX Full Harness

I tried to find someone to make me an in betweener but they said it would change the resistance on things which would not be good.

You can keep your car OBDII if you can make all the sensors happy.

But it seems like swapping the whole harness will be the way to go.

On another note...what kinda mods are you planning? I heard through the gossip grapevine that OBDII can actually de-tune you mods over time.

How much of that is true...i dont know...but is sounds plausable.

ok lakersfan is not wrong.

You could 1) do what lakersfan said along with an adjustible fpr set to 40-42psi or somehwere around there, i cant remember right now
2) convert your car to obd1 which is a very big job to do
3) go stand alone with megasquirt or something and fine tune it

Your right....you could do that.

That would never be an option for me.

It would kill me knowing that i am only using a % of what my new engine was capable of.
