How long are you planning on keeping the car and how many kms are you going to put on a year? And how high is the mileage on these ones? They say the average person drives 20,000kms a year (give or take)... on a 92 car that is essentially 13 years old that's 260,000kms for what is supposed to be an 'average' amount of kms. There should be no reason the engines in these cars shouldn't last well beyond 300,000kms (350ish wouldn't be a bad range). There is a reason you're not paying $25,000 for a new Mazda 3 GT off the lot. Although some of the used prices are a bit much I can agree. Unfortunately cars with a more timeless look to them, and imports tend to hold their value more than domestics of the same year. Regardless of being import or domestic, 100,000kms or 200,000kms the vehicle is going to need some little items. I dunno, I don't believe in a used car that needs absolutely nothing. Mind you, I can find little things on the wifes '04 with 12,000kms.

Are you at least looking and driving the cars out there? You should be able to see and feel the difference when you drive them. You can tell just about nothing about a car over the phone. Even if the guys say it's pristine, the only way to know is to look and drive it. I know I've found several higher mileage cars that felt 4 times better than the low mileage counterpart just because they've been taken care of.

If you end up looking at higher mileage vehicles, I'm going to put the B6T from Rick into mine when school is done, fix a few other things that people seem to be afraid of, and price it in the range of the V6s... however, it will smoke the V6s and the non-turbo BPs in performance.

you need a car quicker than I thought then. :) Seriously though, just look around and drive a few when you get a chance. Look for something where the timing belt and fluids have been changed, maybe new brakes/tires, good window, shocks, that kind of thing.

Even a 94 should have over 200,000kms as an average driver... when I think of high kms, I think of something 60-100k higher for the year than it 'should' be.
