I'm confused, is AWD possible on a 4cyl?

Post by Juans_93_MX3 »

Someone on this forum told me that it was possible to put a AWD tranny on a 4cyl MX3.
Can anyone comfirm this?
Does anyone got any details about this AWD tranny if it is true?

For the love of God.. Will this topic EVER DIE??!!

it IS possible, but only if you want to spend lots of $$ to do it.

And, the AWD tranny wont hold very much power anyway, so its really not worth it.

If you want a Mazda AWD buy a Tribute. It is basically the old Capella AWD with a new body and Ford engines. The older 2.0L version has the same AWD tranny as the BG Protege. The '05s with the Mazda L3-DE 2.3L only has a ATX AWD tranny due to the higher output of this engine over the older 2.0L.

These days it would be easier to covert a ZX-2 to AWD than a MX-3 just due to drive train avilablity and electronics to do the swap. (Eg 323 AWD rear end and Tribute Zetec AWD drivetrain. I've seen the Zetec swapped into the MX-3 and running close to 300hp at the wheels but it is an electrical nightmare.
