"Civic Holiday "

while browsing through my 2005 calender and looking at several Holidays I came across one from Canada on August 1st simply listed as "Civic Holiday " and was wondering if it was similar to the U.S Labor Day ? can someone explain ?....... just curious .

No, our Labour Day is on the first Monday of September every year.

The Civic Holiday is the first MOnday of August each year.

Here is an info page on the Canadian Civic Holiday, which is actually named differenly in the different provinces.

I believe August 1st is a different holiday province to province. I believe here in BC its BC Day.

Actually thats a day in Canada when everyone gets a break from seeing civics driving around everywhere, hence "civic" holiday :roll:


but its called the same thing in every province really..... a day off

While we are on that topic what is "Boxing Day" always see it on calendars and i've always wondered what it was....
