What car would you pick for a new project under - $5000

Post by rukick »

I have my mx3 project but I can never work on it because it's my daily driver too. I want to start another project that can sit in the garage until I want to show it off. I have around $4500 to buy a car. I want a car with 180 hp or more stock, or a car with less hp and lots of aftermarket performance parts available. I would also like the car to have a back seat because my 6-year-old likes to go driving with me and it’s not as safe in the front. I was thinking maybe an older Toyota Celica gt-s, 2nd generation rx-7, or an older Mustang. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what kind of car to get?

By the way, I don't really like Honda's and I don't want another MX-3. Thanks for any help you can give!

there's lots of cars that you can get for $4800 as a project, you didn't give many factors as to what kind of car you're looking for though. Muscle car, import, etc. Daily driver, race track only, show car.... As for myself I know that next 5K that id buy next project for would be challenger, cuda, 93+ rx-7, 63 impala SS. Those are my choices though that Id spend that kind of money on

Definatly would be like a first gen 240sx fastback, or a first gen talon/eclipse AWD. I used to have a talon AWD TSi but couldn't afford it at the time so then came my mx-3.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I like the idea of a 240sx project. I got on auto trader and it looks like I could get a good one for around $5000. The 323 or protege would be fun too. My goal for my next project is pure speed. Right now I am thinking 240sx, 323, protege, or 2nd gen rx-7.

Get a 1985 or something Toyota Corolla GT (AE86)
Pretty cheap, loads of parts available, and build yourself the ultimate drifting car :)

I would love to have one of those :D

A early year 240sx fastback that is in good condition should be ALOT less than $5000. That is quite steep unless it has alot of stuff done to it.
