struts...

Post by Nati-Mx-3 »

What struts do you guys recommend? When i was putting my lowering springs on i (and the group of guys putting them on for me) decided I needed to put on new struts. So what does everyone on here have (aftermarket) and how do you like them? I read all the things of struts on the site(all most all of them) and everyone is using the escort struts which i cant use cause i dont want to drop my car any lower than what it sits now!
Thanks

the guy wants struts not spring..anyways...kyb's are cheap...mazdaspeed's are good but $$$$...I'd say about half of people here has kyb's because of the price..I know you don't want that but zx2 struts are pretty good and not to expensive..A little 0.5" extra drop can't hurt you ;) ..I guess it all depends on what price you want to pay for them...My choice..ZX2

If i got the escort struts, my car would be sitting 2.2 inches lower than what stock is. is that to low for an mx3? and also i have 17 inch rims on the car

No. That's not too low.

KYB's aren't sufficient for lowering your car. They are meant as OEM replacements. You might as well get some cheap Gabriel (OEM maker of some of the early 90's Mazda struts) if you want to replace them.

The Tokico Blues are expensive & not as well valved as the Tokico ZX2 SR struts which are exteremely cheap (cheaper than KYB) and valved for lowering.

Mazdaspeed struts are actually KYB SUper Specials with mazdaspeed badging & lime green paint. They are excellent struts & are 4-way adjustable, but they cost about 180 dollar each so hardly anyone has them.

Sprint makes some struts now for our car, no one has used them, and they sell for about 80 dollars each, equivalent to the tokico blues. Might be good but no one really knows.

Koni inserts are also excellent & cheaper. They cost about 400-500 for a set of 4 & you have to remove the shocks from your OEM strut & replace them with the insert which is kinda annoying. To adjust, you will have to remove everything again as well, but they hold up very well to extreme lowering.

GAB adjustable struts aren't really sold stateside, but you can import them. They are 10-way adjustable & are excellent & cheaper than the mazdaspeed's. I know a guy with a Protege just imported a slightly used set that was on a 323 GT-R for $250 including tax & duty fee's.
