Is there a compatable turbo engine in the 1.8v6 GS?

Post by PJT84 »

I'd like to know if theres any engine swap that is possible, i've only heard of a klze swap in the 1.8v6 dohc. If there is a turbo available what hp increases and performance increases are expected.

You can turbocharge both engines, but you may encounter preignition above 8psi of boost, depending on the grade of fuel available in your area, on the ZE (giving aprox. 290HP) or 10psi on the 03 (giving aprox. 260HP) depending on the application. There are no turbo kits available for either engine from what I know."<BR>Wasn't that a little nicer? :D<p>[ April 19, 2002: Message edited by: VizualXTC ]

If I have to be a smart as to convince others to do a search before asking questions that have been dealt with time and time again then so be it. I suppose you guys aren't the ones getting 20-30 emails a week about the B6T swap.<P>Glad you did a search though. There is a turbo kit for the 1.8l that fits the 2.5l but is essentially crap, it is made by TKT. Kitchen pots as heat shields should explain everything.

From what i see i guess the bpt is the set up to go, but won't that be rather difficult or expensive to change from a 1.8v6 to a 1.8v4? i just wanna make sure i have things right or figured out.

Now we're getting somewhere. The only real problem that I can see is getting your hands on all of the 4 cylinder bracing. You would need the RS motor mounts and I believe you have to modify one of them but I could be wrong. Give Derrick (corksport) a call regarding compatibility of mating a v6 tranny to the BPT. I know the Pro LX uses the G series and will bolt up but I don't know if the v6 tranny shares the same bell housing. Basically, check the online shop manual for the different bracings between the 2 models, I would assume that that should do it. Of course you will need the basic FI parts, a pro lx ecu or GTR (have fun finding one), wiring harness from either a Pro or RS. <P>Any questions regarding upgrades for the BPT, do a search on this site or come join the Yahoo 323GTX egroup for more info.
