Neddt engine and tranny or swap info

I bought my 92 automatic mx3 , has the sohc 4cyl. Tha tranny seems toast and the engine smokes so its not far behind the tranny. I found a 94 protege that has the 1.8 sohc in it and was thinking og swapping the whole engine tranny into the mx3 , would this be an easy swap, the engine configuration looks very similar . If thats not possible whats the cheapest way to go with abother kinda setup that exceeds the stock setup. If anyone has a sohc tranny they wanna sell or a dohc cam setup or anything i might be interested . Even a 5 speed swap i would be interested in . Let me me know , thanks guys

Check in the four banger forums. This swap is very easy although for a similar price you can get the DOHC motor from a protege which would be a much better peformance gain
