the bottom line

Post by DJester187 »

ok i've read several different posts and still no unchallenged answer. the curved neck ze w/ kl01 cams, does anyone truly know how many hp this engine is? some say 190hp, others say 174hp, then even fewer say 196 hp. can someone please answer this once and for all w/ a little proof :confused2: (dyno'ed would be awesome)thanks in advance. (i'm too poor right now to dyno :crying: )

174's should be for American spec KL31 engines (Millenia). AS for Jap spec KL31 head motors, I believe the KL01 cams are supposed to put out 197 HP, but since the manual tranny ECU's we get are for the straight neck KL31 engines, the VRIS points are a little off and result in more like 190HP.

Do you mean head code or cam code? No KLZE has a KL01 head code.

I ran a 14.7 in the 1/4. That works out to 168 wheel Hp according to this-
http://www.battleoftheimports.com/classes/battlecalc.htm

I guessed the car with me in it weighs 2700lbs, I'm 150lbs.

Assume a 30hp drivetrain loss and I have 198hp at the engine. I'd say my mods might have added 10hp. So stock it would have been 188hp. This was all in 90+ degree humid as hell florida heat. If it was cooler and less humid out I might be good for another 10 or so HP.

I'd say the stock power has got to be in the 190's.

BTW- My engine is a curved neck KL-01 cammed ZE.

i got the ZE with the curved neck manifold and it has kl-101 and kl-1A1 on the heads, and trust me u can tell its a ZE, i was worried at first but i read here that it is the lower compression ZE with around 190hp instead of the higher compression 200hp one, but she still has lots of balls.

An engine as clean as that would be quite young, and therefore more likely to be the lower compression version (9.2:1) of the JDM engine, with 187hp SAE (190PS). That's not too bad, and it should pass emissions much more easily, as it's been detuned to meet the new higher JDM emissions standard.

ok sounds good, cuz that means that later if i so choose i can put more boost than the higher (10:1) compression engine right?

It's not the compression that limits boost on the 2.5 it's the rods. They break before the motor starts knocking from the higher compression.

Hey I got the same curved neck ZE like the picture above but mine has kl31 1a1 and kl31 101 heads with kl-01 camshafts. I thought this was the ZE version not the regular millenia engine with kl 101 and 1a1 heads :confused2:
