Bad shifting, need input

Ok I have been reading for the last half an hour in the archives. My car seems to have a common problem. It shifts like ****, Especially second gear. From all the things i read there wasnt much addressing the actual problem, just beating around the bush. So my question is who here has had this problem, and had it partially or completely fixed?
Im taking my car in on tuesday (3 days) to get an axle shaft replaced so I want to have them look at that too. And I want to have some knowledge about the problem.
So anyways any help would be great, also are shifter bushings generic? or are they specific to each car? and how much do they run?
Thanks alot!

Well i just got a new clutch so there is new transaxle fluid and its full, this problem existed before the new clutch, and im almost positive my transmition is fine because once in a blue moon my car shifts like a dream, especially the first day i got it back with the new clutch, but soon after it was back to same old.

It's hard to get mine into 1st if im driving. So instead I just go from 2nd...to neutral...come to a complete stop...then shift into 1st (very smooth).

Try replacing the front and rear motor (actually transmission) mounts.

Well, if some of the gears shift harder than others, and you somtimes get smooth shifts i'd say your syncro's are wore. Try matching your rmp's on your shifts, and double clutch, if you get it right it should shift smooth even if your synco's are wore out. Although this might be a little tricky because the rpm's drop on these engines pretty quick. Just throwin some ideas out.

All GS do that im pretty sure. Mine only has 60,000miles on it and i know there is nothing worn out and mine does it too. It just wont let you shift into 1st above like 15 miles an hour. something to do with the sycros.

It isn't unusual for a manual transmission to not go into first gear easily when you come to a stop. When it happens just clutch then go into some other gear (second, third, whatever), then go into first and you'll find it usually goes in smooth and easily. Just a suggestion .....
