higher octane better for v6?

Post by Sean Mandell »

I know this topic was covered before but I don't see how 87 octane is better for these k series motors. When mazda quotes hp numbers is this on their gas or north american gas. In japan they have a 100+ octane gas. I know every time I fill up with sunoco 94 and insert octane booster the car runs like a champ but I can't say this is true when I feel cheep and use 87 she feels a little sluggish.<P>just looking for opinions.

its not nessisarly better but 87 gas burns quicker, higher octane gas helps your car run better especially if its a ze because as compression goes up so should octane, thats why 16:1 race car engines run jet fuel at 116 octane, 87 helps pass emissions though because it gets out of the system faster

you want to run the lowest octane you can without detonation. That will provide the most power.
