play in shifter

Hi there. Was wondering if anyone knows what could be causing play (side to side) in the shifter? Seems loose and sloppy.<P>Also - Any big problems that crop up in the v6 engine around 200k kms has anyone noticed? I'm at 180k and it's starting to sound like it might need valve work.<P>This is a 94 v6, 5spd btw.
