Got a ticket today.......

Was turning left and the light was yellow so I rode the guys *** infront of me and got through as it went red. Cop must have been right behind me and pulled me over. He didnt give me a fine right there, he just gave me a court date. Any significance to this? And how much does it make your insurance go up and how many points do you get on you license? Thanks guys

If the cop just gives you a court date it's a major ticket (6 points) AND/OR you're licence will be suspended, because you don't have enough points left to take the ticket. <p>The exact same thing happened to me a few months back! I was just issued a ticket to go to court and since I only had 4 points left, my licence ended up being suspended for 60 days.<p>"And how much does it make your insurance go up?"

Well, I've talked to a bunch of people I know and I've heard it wont be that bad. Maybe it was worse cause you were in Canada. I was in a wreck over a year ago, it was my fault. Playing with cd player and didnt see a red light. Now I jsut got this one, but I wasnt speeding, which I guess would've been worse. I heard running a red light here is abotu 1-2 points on your license, and I'm thinking I only have about 3 or so now, and I heard you can get up to 8, depending on how old you are, and I'm 19, but I dont know, I'm gonna call the police station right now actually and see whats up with this.

Wow, never heard of anything like this, he just told you to go to court for no reason? Cause here, if the light is yellow and your front wheels are past the line, you're good, unless you were tailing the guy too closely.

Ok, found this out today. Here, its 8 points on your license when your 19, which I'am, before it gets suspended, I only have 2 points right now. When a cop writes you a ticket here, he can either give you the fine then and there and you have to go to court to pay it up, or just leave it up to the judge, either way, you'll still have to go to court. I've talked to plenty of people who have said I'm fine and have nothing to worry about. In BC u get a ticket. And then u can dispute it. There is no court date given at the time of the ticket.
And tickets don't affect ur insurance... unless u get 6 or more points in a year then I believe its $100 per point....
Last may I had to pay $1000 in points and tickets
