when i got my mx3 the power steering was gone, it was a fun drive home :driver:
its not worth it to get rid of it, even if its only for drag racing.

actually i had no idea it would affect horse power.... i wanted to do it for 2 reasons:
1. more room in the engine bay
2. driven a few of my friends cars who don't have power stearing... more responsive... i enjoyed it

Yes you can remove it but you would have to find a Non-power steering rack to swap in. Just removing the hoses or dropping the belt will cause gradual severe damage to the system as of the power steering fluid serves as a lubricant for the whole system.

If you are interested in a more responsive feel from the steering i would seriously suggest getting a smaller steeringwheel and/or chaing over the a GS steering rack. I have a 300mm steering wheel and its quite a big diffrence.

my mechanic suggested the same method he used on an eclipse / talon... he removed all the hoses and pump then purged the fluid from the what was left and then took the hoses hood up to the stearing (not sure what he called it) poor some fluid into it and make a loop around just that area.

That would keep it lubricated although If you are interested in quick responses i really would suggest trying a smaller steeringwheel first

I kind of like manual racks myself as well. It does seem to get a bit 'out of touch with what's going on' around certain corners vs. a manual rack.

Power steering is nice to have on the street where most driving is done though.

power steering only helps when the car isn't in motion... how many of you have driven a small car that doesn't have power steering.. cause it makes a big difference and only affects steering pretty much when parked..... i plan on getting another steering whell also but mostly for looks not to get a really small one

Personally, i have driven quite a few cars with both. Most of thse desired feels and traits are somthing set by the company that produces the product. Not everyone wants to feel the raod.

Not to argue, power steering can make a big diffrence while the car is in motion. If you lived near me i would let you try to autocross my old 323 given i do belive just telling you that having to make rapid transitions is difficult just wont sink in.

The Honda CRX (at least the two models that I have driven) Do not have Power steering either.
I hear ya about the responsiveness though. It's really fun to drive. And for those who complain about it being hard to drive in the city... 'tis time to do some weight-lifting bro! It's not *that* bad. sheesh. You should never (have to) turn at a dead stop. Even moving like 4 inches per second is enough to make a non-power-assist steer not that difficult

The point i am trying to convery though is the responsiveness has little to do with weather its powered or not but with how it was designed from the factory.
