just finished swap and...

Post by 65stang »

I just got the BP engine in my mx3 and I have a few questions. Is there a rev limiter on the BP ECU because I think it revved up past 7500 nicely last night and wanted to go for more. Also what is the best size for exhaust on this NA motor, I was thinking 2 1/4. I already have a cone filter on there. Any other cheaps mods you can suggest.

The exsaust is up for discression the common agreement though is 2in.

The rev limiter should be at 7500. If everythign is working properly it should be 7200 in 1st and 2nd.

the rev limit is like 7300 but cause the stock tach isn't to good at high rpm
it shows that it's redlining at 7500 but it;s only 7300
still looks coool

what are some cheap mods I can do beside air intake?
I wish I had a jspec engine but I will have to live w/ my wrecked protege engine because I spent 200 bucks + beer for friends on it.

Really the best place to look for mods for a BP is on a protege forum.

http://www.clubprotege.com/

Is the best place you can start. A important thing IMO is to get a rx7 MAF (do some searchs on the part) it makes quite a bit of diffrence for the price. Also exsaust work helps too you can remove the resonaotr and change out the muffler cheaply.

what type of budget do ya have for mods?

What about timing on the BP motor? Can I advance it just as easily as I can on my 302? What will be the gains? Are there are negatives associated with advancing the timing on the motor?

Other than having to run higher octane gasses Yeah advancing the timing is very easy. If you want to set it using a light though i suggest you check a chiltons for instuctions.

The biggest gains are on the low end response wise top end doesnt see much from it.

BEst advice i can give is to go do a lot of seraching and reading at a protege forum
