SOHC but 16 valves...

Post by Hardcand-E »

Ok, i've heard of 16v DOHC and 8v SOHC but my car is a 16v SOHC and i'm curious as to which headers...if any will fit on my car...also i'm wondering why i have a 16v sohc is it a freak of nature or, not a very popular engine. Any performance advice or tips would be greatly apprecitated

The SOHC engine is a 16 valve and (in general in the automotive world) they are not freaks of nature. SOHC 16 valve engines need rocker arms to transfer movement from the cam to the valves and this makes them less ideal than DOHC engines when you are reving the crud out of your engine, but it tends to make them shorter and more narrow so there are plusses. DOHC engines are better suited to rev at higher rpms than SOHC engines at the expense of usually being wider and taller. As far as headers do a search I am sure this has been talked about to death in other posts.

One header was created for the SOHC engine, GENIE one.
16 valves sohc exist, same as 12 valves sohc engine, and 8 valves.
Sohc engine are design for low-TORQUE. So, it is one of the quickest Engine, but not one of the fastest engine.. or great top-End speed..

marcor-genie in hamilton-ON. Canada imports sohc headers for 360.00 Canadian.
The guy answering email said if I were to go there he would install them for free.
