Maybe I can help you a little with your problem. I did my timing belt 1 month ago (93 RS 4 Cyl) and noticed similar problems you encountered. Concerning your rubbing I know that on my car the alternator belt rubbed the outside of my timing belt casing cause I saw deep scratches on the outside cover. I don’t know why you think something is rubbing but you can check for that. My cover two was crack a few places including around the bolts. What I did is simply glued the cover with good plastic glue (but it has to be strong and capable of withstanding your area temperature). I think it is important that you sealed your case because you will minimize your risk of failures and pre-wear of your parts. If your casing is badly cracked I sure you can find stuff to just rebuild it like fiberglass and glue used for body repair. Finally about your tensioner, I think the pulley itself should be spinning freely if I remembered correctly I think mine was.<P>Hope you find something useful in there.<p>[ December 18, 2001: Message edited by: Mark2611 ]
