There is a drain plug in the bottom of the tank and the fuel pump assembly opens up a huge hole on the top. I replaced my tank and dealing with all that rusted out bolts and brake lines was real scary - i wouldnt recommend it unless its an absolute must.

To hear the fuel pump - just crank the engine for a very short moment (but dont let the engine start) and leave the key in the on position - if everything is working you might hear a whine from under the backseat.

well put in the new pump and still no power, no im gonna go back and retime the engine redo the ignition timing. i think its off by a lil but got the cat tested fine, new pump, new disty, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, maf sensor, tps sensor, getting about 140 psi in each cylinder, new alternator, my car cant go over 75 its basically dead and i thought a fuel pump would cause this but im wrong. 3rd 4rth and 5th gear are basically bogging down first and 2nd go by ok but too fast. so would a pressure regulator cause this problem? were gonna try and check out that exhaust cam maybe see if i we can take it off and rotate it. thnx guys for all your help hope i can get this problem solved

Try another set of cams too - Miata cams work in DOHC - you have to put the miata exhaust cam in the DOHC intake and so on.
