Engineering is a set of analiytical tools. In the same way that a mechanic is taught to use a set of tools to diagnose a problem with a car or truck or other machine. The difference is that an Engineer's tools allow the diagnosis of a much much wider range of situations to a much much deeper level of understanding. An Engineer's tools allow them to understand not only why something works, but exactly when it will break and when it does break to figure out exactly why.

Ryan is exactly right. Engineers get hired in every industry in every capacity because geting an engineering degree is considered proof that they can learn and understand nearly anything.

Does Architecture count as engineering?? hahahaha :freak: (jokes, I'm absolutely useless when it comes to mechanical stuff on cars haha... I'm trying to learn, then)
This actually cracked me up, reading through this, though - I never realised how deep this whole 'engineers love to argue' thing went

A love of arguing is inherent in many intelligent people, engineers just so happen to fall into that category more often than not

No harm intended, honest! I just find it funny how accurate that statement is, I've yet to meet any engineer that didn't enjoy a good argument ;)

I don't argue. I patiently explain to those less fortunate.

Heh, sounds like I should become an engineer.

On a side note, classic mistake right here; luckily age isn't a limiting factor for intelligence.

Equally classic mistaking intelligence for wisdom.

It's ok, he's young and his exuberance hasn't been tempered with experience yet. He's the young Bull who runs down the hill to get one cow. I walk down and get them all. :P

Patience pays off I guess, especially when it comes to "cows" ;)
