smooth, the only info is that u should ALLWAYS check for aftermarket parts available for our MX3.
The pipes are real cool to look at, but im going to spend a lot of money on silicone reducer's just to make it fit :(
It will be custom allright, but expensive :(

Here we go, my custom made MAZDASPEED c.a.i. is made and in place
The sound: i thought that it would make a lot more noise, but it's just the other way around.
I really cant hear my intake from inside the car right now
The power: I know that you guys are the MX3 guru's... but let me tell you, for a simple intake , my car pulls a lot better from down below.
My bet is --- +10 nm @ 3000 ... i dont know
Driving, it feels like 30 nm , but i know that it's the DIY virus :welder:
When i can, i will take some pics

To be honest, That filter looks restrictive. That's probably why it's quiet. If you replace everything, including the ribbed duct, and put on a K&N filter, you will hear it. I'd like to see what you made.

jesse, what do you mean by restrictive ?
Image
I used the same intake, and it made a clean bear growl sound ... i thought that since i placed it in the hole behind the fog light, it would be louder.
But that's not the case, at least from the inside.
I did not replaced the ribbed duct, it's found it's place in my custom intake.
A K&N filter is open, it sucks more air, but it can suck any water in the premises

I want to clean it up a bit, and then ill take the pics

Since I can't see any of the actual filter, the air has to change direction alot, to get to the smooth flow in the ducting, and it looks like there isn't much room for a filter, compared to the open types. Also, the hole where the air goes in looks like it's about 1/3 of the surface area of the open cone type.
Some would say that the intake doesn't make a difference, but I think you'd gain a HP if you replace the ribbed part with a peice with a smooth transition, and put on a cone filter. I used a modified stainless steel Martini shaker. It has a smoother transition than a silicone reducer.
No matter how big the surface area of your filter, it will not change the amount of water in the air... but K&N makes a mesh filter that fits around a cone filter, that filters out water. I'm going to use one when I finish my ram air set-up
