vaild points about the waste gate
now about fuel...you can go out and get a fpr for around 200 bucks. the injectors, pending the omage i have no idea what our is you can get peak and hold or saturated injectors from racing mazda's site. i mean when you think about it the fuel is something you can do really easily your self. new fuel pump, wlabro 255 is about 90 bucks.
intercooler, you can also do that yourself. this kit is pretty much a great base for someone who doesnt want to go gathering all the "big" pieces of the project and then having it custom done...not to much to give us a good insight on what we can run.
personally...yeah the price is up there but i completly understand why...and also understand why some of you would dislike this and would change things. everyone has their preference... :)

I am definately in the wrong business. As a fellow racer I wish I could tell it and then some (thanks Maldo) However as a business owner I have to grab the hot side of the turbo after a run abd smile.
Every one want power, Most do not want to pay for it.
Lot will pay, but seldom do they buy the right things so the get not enough power.
its an SOHC handle good, weak power, weak motor. stage I on that engine is just a starter kit for those looking to get "STARTED" No will not beat Kenny Tran at this level.
excellent construction
t3 manifold = great upgrade later if desired
external waste gate (BECAUSE) most internal minimum boost will be 9 psi. Which mean additional fuel and timing computers, which mean more money, which mean more bad remarks from some about cost.
same for the external dump
down pipe bolt to stock.
its greddy and tial. This way its less head ache about w,w,w,w,w, its quality for less.
its 4 psi on a sohc 1.6. on a t3
4 psi on an mx 2.0 fs engine DOHC t3/t4 gained 64 to the wheels. Still not enough to call out Jojo.
stage II
the car does not have enough room for a fron mount so I made a small side mount for it. I have 370 cc injectors and an piggy system I have not been back to the dyno since the stage I but the time slip said 14.45 @ 7 psi 95.1 mph. @2575 lbs and 2.2 60ft that about 175 hp to the wheels.
Still stock motor 92 octane. I have tried 15 and 20 psi, The car need more spark. Goal was just 200 to the wheels and 13 sec. That will still cost close to 4k for all the stages of a bolt on kit that take a sohc 88 fly hp to 200 + on the stock motor. I am ready for Steph.
If you like it. buy it. if not, then watching your friend in his honda up hold your honor is not that bad.
This setup will be transplanted to my X's car @ 250 to the wheels.

hey...i have a t3 on my sohc mx3 and i also have a fmic. i think there should be pics on both cardomain and my other site in my sig. With the stock front bumper, pretty much all of it had to be cut away in order to fit the bumper cover on, but my new mp5 front leaves a TON of space for an intercooler
later, :)

I think they did a small side mount due to liability issues in case the cutting of the bumper had to be done.

A FMIC is near impossible without hood pins or removing the latch brace. If the kit was provided with a FMIC and it was required that you removed bracing, cut metal, removed the actual bumper or sported a particular front end, one of two things would happen: Ric would become liable in the event that it was determine that the modification required by his product caused injury to you or you would not buy it because you either didn't want that front end or didn't want to modify the structure of the car. I haven't seen the design of the side mount but depending on how it is designed it could offer a few benefits, one being less piping and the other is simplicity. Less piping gives better throttle response. If you want a FMIC then you can purchase one and get custom piping as each person will want something. That T3 will easily allow you to have between 200-300whp with proper tuning.

but how well will the sohc handle it thats what im now wondering. This kit is great and once i get down to my apartment in austin i plan on getting it straight from htere shop. However what will be the first internals to go? I wonder if Ric has any insight on this. as the SOHC was not meant to be turbocharged....help me out here ;) ...also what with this dump tube stuff. I have heared the term before but what is it? isnt the just piping and when the boost isnt needed its shot out the BOV, whats the dump do?

Also. can you put this kit on with basic tools? what about the oil line do you have to tap that? just wondering i spend the 2k, can I put it on myself in the garage?
[ August 28, 2003: Message edited by: Ryencool ]

First thing to go would be the rods. That is your responsibility and not Rics. Tuning is key with everything. Ric managed 399.4rwhp on the stock bottom end with his BP, you won't make it that far but I am sure you new that. As long as things are in good condition, 250whp shouldn't be a problem. If the rods let go below that amount, the boost just increased the speed in which a pending problem was going to arrive at. Pistons are at a nice enough CR to not be too prone to detonation but will offer good spool up.
An internal wastegate vents from the turbo into the downpipe. An external wastegate is seperate from the turbo and vents into a pipe that is either routed back into the downpipe further down from the turbo or to the atmosphere. Either way, it releases exhaust gases that are creating your "boost". Both methods are harmless to you but if venting to the atmosphere it will be louder.

yeah with .2 liters less i wasnt expecting 400hp. 250-300 is more like it. I was thinking valves or rods so who knows. I dont have a ton of experience with turbos, just got the book by corky and been watching this board for 3 years haha.I wanted more of a complete system, haltek, new injectors, fuel pump, but this is great to build off of, im so excited Anyways thanks again for the kit ric. Most likely ill be seein ya when i get to texas.

I have seen some front mount. However If I did that, the next complain will be that no one want to cut their car. making mega power on this engine was not the goal. It was to make a Cheep kit to get owners started. The stages were done for those with more funds available. I am sure a built single can hit more than 250. However that is not my goal for this project.

I have a front mount :) Didnt have to cut to much but youre right. If its a kit you hae to make it fit without to much modification.

yes...i just wanted to point out that a fmic is dooable on our cars. not saying ric you should do a fmic for the kit.
ric-good job and keep the good work comming. even though i wont be buying this kit i am still all smiles that you did it and got it up to 15psi. very impressive, had i not started the plans and slight purchasing for a engine swap, id defintly do this set up.

a SMIC is good enough ric.. i have a smic for my setup too. just say if you want a fmic they'll have to customize one to fit with their kit (which shouldn't be too hard if you find a good welder and get some piping and make some room in there.)
