4 psi might not seem like much, but on the sohc mx it does make a difference. Right now im only pushing 4psi until i get a boost controller, and even at that the car is alot more fun than stock. only problem im having is first gear...no boost?! i dont get it, anyone with ideas?? (sorry to go off topic)
Also for a starter turbo kit $2000 imo is a good deal like maldo said for what you are getting

You need a bigger exhaust and no cat will help. Even then its tough getting boost in 1st. The motor out runs the turbo.

bpd?
This kit is a good start. I was tolled the stage 3 will get you up to maybe 250whp. and that istn to bad in a 2500lb car with everyhting bolted up and tested, on a sohc motor. THe have put alot of research into this project, so if you dont like it, dont post. Stage one is just a start , and soes stage 3 fors some, building off these kits makes it alot easier to run big boost. Get stage one, adn a standalone, new injectors, front moutn, and boom 300hp is capable right?

Man these guys have put alot of time and money to try and open up the aftermarket list for us and your doggin it?? Some of you guys are sayin "thats not alot of HP" well if you dont like it.. why u drive an MX3 for? look we all know MX3's dont have alot of HP and we all know that for a fact, but i mean **** at least credit these guys for trying to improve our game.. just think back 3 years ago from now..our aftermarket list has grown!! so forget all ya'll that think this sux.. your guys are dumb.

right.
To bad people on here are dumbasses and cant see the point in spending money to make horsepower. Most of these guys probably want 300hp on the stock ecu. For those who are interested at where this kit stands compared to others, go here: FM turbo kits or Racing Mazda stage 1 for comparisons. For under $3500, you will not make huge power as that price does not include a standalone. You guys are complaining about $2000 for a good turbo kit, look at the pricing on a complete TEC-III kit. Here is a starter Miata kit offered by HKS, HKS turbo kit, compare parts and then compare price.
Let's show a little respect to Racing Mazda, I don't see any other companies willing to invest their time and money in a dying market.

i got a 90 pgt...but wish it was a mx-3 bp-t!

I would like to appologize to Racing Mazda for my premature one line of critisism. It is true $2000 for this kit is worth every penny-especially considering the time put into the fabrication and R&D. I think this is an excellent base, and will help those of us lacking knowledge on FI gain a bit. Way to go Ric and thanks!

None of this still explains to me why this base kit has a pricey external gate(with a very loud external dump tube) and no rising rate FPR. The price is right- just seems the parts are wrong for a starter kit.

The kit already includes the wastegate.
I guess the point is that stages 2+ will build off of this base kit. Yes, Ric could have included an internally gated T3 and dropped the cost about $200-$300. Ric is a perfectionist, given that, he is most likely packaging it this way as a means of greater control (much like his other kits). I look at it as a highlight of the kit, increased benefits for little cost.

plus in the long run the external wastegate is a better setup for higher horsepower, especially if the kit has the potential to get in the 250hp range (or whp?). it'll save you money because most people would probably modify the manifold to put on an external wastegate flange anyway.. i know i would. hey if ric did it this way, he did it for a reason.
you can either pay little now, or pay a lot later.

2 grand is a lot for a turbo kit, especially one that is non-intercooled. It is a great step in the right direction though, for SOHC owners, and I understand fabrication is expensive and time consuming. I'm sure prices will drop tremendously if they know they are going to sell a lot of them. I know I can't wait to see some turbo SOHC's on the road putting out like 100whp after spending this much money, wow! :p
