Re: riaa sueing people
A service charge for kaazaa? Thats strange if you ask me, they should be sueing kaazaa for selling the service. I wonder if they will follow through on all these cases, if the the courts involved will follow through, or if its all a ploy to scare people? Does anyone know if anyone has been ordered to pay out anything?
It makes me want to take a break from any music downloading" :p
Also somehting else comes to mind, say you dl'd 1 song and it happens to be a song you own on a cd, well then dont you own the rights to that song? Could you not counter sue for deformation of character or something along those lines. or are they sueing on the grounds that you are acting as a server to distribute these songs?

Here's where people get in trouble. You can download all the music you want. You can have 10,000 songs downloaded and NOT get in trouble. When people leave the SHARE FILTER ON while using Kazaa, Morpheus, or whatever they use, they can get busted. The RIAA can never sue you if they can't see how many files you have.
If you share files, however, you are subject to all sorts of trouble. which is why i have had mine off since I got Kazaa

Re: riaa sueing people
lol useless facts
those come from riaa themselves on how many cds that have sold 500,000+ cds
the cost of manufacturing cds is peanuts to riaa. They have contracts with companies such as Cinram to make all kinds of cds for them and it hardly costs them anything. Why you ask? because the companies who make the cds arent dumb. They're not going to just have 1 contract but many. Not only that but they make DVDs and cassette tapes and VHS tapes. You factor in what it costs to run their machines, pay wages pay for all other expenses then you look at the millions of cds, dvds, tapes and VHS they make a DAY they can afford to charge LESS than a dollar a cd. How do I know this you ask? I do work for cinram and am very good friends with an employee in sales, I have access to information you THINK you may have but dont. Before you post anything here please check your facts.

good job man, Im not even going to argue with that, should have said that in the first place! Im just talking from my experience with manufacturing in general, and obviously was mistaken in the subject of cd manufacturing, and I say good day to you sir

Re: riaa sueing people
THe way I see it, I pay for all the music I download. Every time I buy a blank CD (Or package there of) I pay a levy/tax/teriff or whatever you want to call it to the record companies. Even if the CD's arnt for audio storage, I have to pay the ****. So as far as I'm concerned, I've already paid for the music Ii'm downloading.
How would you feel if you bought a set of butter knives, and had to pay your auto insurance company a levy on them because they could be used to break into a car?!?! Its the same ****, just a diffrent pile.
I saw a street sign yesterday that said Caution! Children playing! so I slowed down. Then I thought Wait! I'm not afraid of children!
