Just ran over a dog!

Post by gmuffb »

I know most of you are guys and you'll laugh at this but I can't stop crying! I had to either hit him or the tractor trailer, he died on impact and his sister was standing by him in the middle of the road looking around like..."what's going on." The owners didn't even care, they just said..."that's okay, we have more dogs." If I wasn't crying so hard I would've been mad at them. It cracked my bumper cover and it's about to come off (it was a smaller dog). So I'm sure no one really cared to know that, but i had to vent, thanks for letting me do so. I'm so traumatized!!!Image

I had a kitten run under my car once, I tried to stop but couldn't, that had me kind of traumatized for a while so I know how ya feel, I'm sure others have hit pets too, its not a funny thing to go through.

I had a dog hit by a car once..I remember my brother and I crying for days after. Especially when it is a puppy and you have the mommy dog howling and wondering where her pup is. Sooo sad.

You guys think i should get the repair money out of them for the car...just the thought of that seems mean/immoral, considering i did kill their dog.(i should sue them for mental trauma) I'm thinking that they must not care much about their pets cause they said this happens often...maybe it's time they suffer consequences, i don't know this is crappy!

Thats too bad. Seems like the owner must not of really cared one way or another about that dog, you probably did it a favor in the long run.
If I were you I would take the jerk to small claims court, you would probably win, espcially if there is a leash law in your area. It would be one thing if the dog got away from the owner by mistake and the owner was chasing after it and subsequently very traumatized by the event, but the guy let not one, but two dogs chill in the street. I say go for it, the dude obviously doesn't care about the dogs or you or your car so he should pay-thats the bottom line.

its aight gurl, you'll get over it after a while. there's really nothing you could do, and if you'd have done anything else, you would've put your own life in risk; always think of it this way.
I hit several squeruls (dunno the spelling) in Toronto's streets and highways. And i also hit a dear who jumped over a bridge's steel barriers with a nissan pathfinder i had, that was like 7 months ago though. hmmm, that made some delicious deer kebab BBQ with kiwi sause for the next month,, :D :D
It was an animal; can you imagine how many people die in the streets of toronto in the freezing cold weather here,,,, I try my best to get them out of the cold and give em a ride to whereva possible or buy em food,, but i neva give em the money,,

its their fault for letting their dogs run loose.
take them to small claims court.
just make sure you get some video evidence of them doing it again(leting their dogs run in the street as cars go by) so you have proof, other wise its your word against theirs, and they could counter sue for killing the dog.

Here lets lighten up this thread a bit.
Dont, ever, ever, under any circumstances hit a Skunk!!! When those things go thud thud under yer tires and the stink sack starts going through your vents from it burning off the engine, your car will stink for like well ever.
I hit a skunk doing 160 up a hill too fast to turn around it so im like "ah **** this is gonna suck". Thud Thud! I felt bad at first then pissed off that the little bugger had to be crossing just as I was cruising up the road! I was driving my moms car and didn't want to tell them that I hit something, and out of stupidity I parked the car in the garage. Big Mistake. Well to make a long story short the garage stank like skunk for a week, and the car was sold to buy a Mazda Protege5. Which still stank like skunk and this was like 5 months afterwards!!!

Come on man! You killed their dog! It's a terrible thing...but it's something that happened. Don't make them pay for your bumper repair.

If you don't want to take the guy to court you could see if your insurance would cover the repair, might be a good way to avoid a confrontation if your deductible isn't too high.
I probably over reacted on my first post I still feel bad for my little brother who a couple months ago hit a dog that jumped out from behing a parked car on a busy city street. The lady who owned the dog came out of her house yelling and screaming and cursing at my little brother who pulled over and picked up the bloody mangled dog and brought it over to her and started apologizing. She even tried to have him arrested and told the cop that he was speeding and driving recklessly even though she didn't see the dog get hit and even though my brother was crying. I guess I just don't have a lot of sympathy for people who don't keep a close eye on their pets but I know I would feel pretty horrible if one of my dogs was killed.
