computer people i need help

Post by mzdspd »

i am trying to reinstall Norton AntiVirus on my dell with windows xp because it recently crashed well anyways during the install i get an error thats says "There was a problem trying to register with Live Update. Live Update will not be available for this product." so i hit ok and the install continues. then the progress bar gets almsot all the way and then goes backwards and i get an error that says "Installation ended prematurly because of an error." and this is the version straight from dell and the reason i am asking how to fix this on here is because dell wanted to charge me $29 to tell me how to fix it even though i have the 4 yr warranty and the insurence and all that. well if anyone has any ideas please let me know. thancks.

I'd reinstall windows. Sounds like you’re missing a vital driver...

Make sure they sent you the XP version of Norton, XP is kinda buggy and often won't work with programs designed for older versions of windows.

u should borrow a hard drive from someone you know then copy all the data that you want on it. then format your hard drive partition it into to parts. copy your data on to one part and reinstall your os on the other. thinking ahead will only help you. good luck

Pc-Cillin, i work at a computer store and you wouldnt believe how many pc's ive seen infected with a virus that had pc-cillin running...the best was my sisters computer, was copying data from "her pc" to mine over the network cause i was gonna go a format and re-install cause her pc was acting funny, as the files were being copied, norton anti-virus picked found infected files, sure it didnt catch the original virus or when i spread to the dozen or so files, but only when the files were being moved

did you recently install something else?
If so, Create a system restore point. Then, do a system restore and bring your windows "Back" a few days. Try reinstalling it then. If you run into issues, you can always go back to the restore point you just created.<p>I had the same problem when my Norton AV 2003 expired. I uninstalled it, but then later did a system restore which FUBARD the norton registery settings. I wouldnt let me reinstall nor uninstall the product. I even tried installing 2002, which I go the same error you did. Its probably an issue with the windows installer. Its part of XP, and unfortunatley can't be reinstalled.
