piping into exhaust?

I was looking over the engine recently and noticed some coper colored metal tubing going from near the intake mani into the exhaust manifold any one know what that is?

Okay... well..
This so called EGR, does it help the engine at all??
I don't really think I'd want exauhst going back into my engine if I had the choice...

Someone else posted that our cars don't have EGR. I think I'm going to crawl around tomorrow and see if I have this tube you are talking about.

Anyway, if it is EGR it's ok. An EGR system sends exhaust gas back into the intake as a replacement for fresh air. This is only under certain circumstances (which I forget). The purpose in this case is to allow additional gas to flow through the combustion chamber to cool it down which reduces the NOx emissions.

i think the protege had that tube i saw also... and i wondered about it back then... it was a pain when i pulled the tranny to replace the clutch.. was in the way at times.

All the Mazda B series engine have an EGR from '94 and up.

so if i switch to the b6t turbo manifold will that cause a problem?

you can bypass the egr it wont cause any problems!! You do the same when converting to a probe header....I just dont know about passing e-test??
