Is the mechanic trying to rip me off.
I just got a phone call from the mechanic. He said he can't seem to find nothing wrong with the car except for the clutch, because I told him it won't acclerate. Then he said it would cost like $600 to fix it. Is this insane. I mean I want to get the people word on this. I mean I can get a oem for $126 or a straight performance one for $287. Can someone help me out. I am not going to pay $600.

In a lot of cases the large expense is the labor involved not cost of the part. I know the local Mazda dealership charges $75/hour for shop time. On something like a clutch that takes several hours to do, it can add up quickly. I would suggest calling around to a couple other shops in your area and get quotes on how much replacing the clutch in your car would be. <P>Steve

Yep it's the labour that kills you, I had to change my timing belt earlier this year, the belt costed hardly anything but its the few hours of labour involved that adds up.

Yeah thats what I heard. Thanks for the replies. Man I know when I get my new clutch kit (not the one they are fixing) a better one it would cost more to put in.

Yeah, labor is what kills you on anything when it comes to cars. I got my Centerforce clutch in for $400 US.

$600!, i hope you meen canadian. i got a new cluch installed for less then $300 usd. parts and labor. Thats no lie. you guys need better techs. then again i did used to work for the guy but still i wouldn't pay anything over $400, that with a preformance cluch. also you sure it's the cluch, whats the prob?
Hmm. what to do now..
....maybe a VTEC for lunch.

I spoke with A-Spec and they charge $250 (CDN) for labour, and $350-$450 for the clutch. I am still in the process of calling around to see how little I can get it done for.
