Changing belts

Post by jaxblue »

I have to change the alt belton my wifes 92 and in order to do that I have to take the othe belt off. I tried taking the ac compressor loose but to no avail. I took a nut off and the long bolt loose, it looks like the bolt that I took the nut off comes out but its not moving :( . This is my first time changing belts on this car so I'm not sure if im going in the right direction. Any tips?????

yeah its a 4 cyl. I took off the nut in between the AC and the timing cover (does that bolt come out cuz i couldnt get it out) and I have ran in and out the bolt in the front in the middle of the the ac and ps pump. It seems connected to the bolt that i took the nut off. still no luck ahhh this sucks

the ps pump pulley has two holes in it a line it be able to use the socket wrench to lossen it. probly need a braker bar to lossen it or a foot long pipe that u put over ur wrench handle easier to loossen. that bolt between that A/C and timing cover is not the right one. where that bolt is look or feel 2-3in to the right u should feel another bolt the bolt is close to the belt that the one u have loosen. be better to have car jack up and tires off or moved to the right. thats what i did to loosen the belts for the ps pump and A/c wheni intalled a underdrive pulley on my sohc. i have both models sohc and dohc. if u get stuck i'll double check again, laters

i did mine this weekend, the top part closest to the hood is the ps pump, if you've loosened the nut underneath the ps pump (not clearly visible, only if you look directly on top sort of behind the pulley, with a light coming from the alternator side), that seemed to be the hardest part, the only other thing to loosen would be the pivot bolt, located on the left-hand side of the ps pump (not behind the pulley), if this bolt is too tight (which it should be) the ps pump wont pivot.

so in closing two ps pump bolts is all you need to loosen don't remove any nut or bolts, and a firm push down (mind you hoses), should do the trick, make sure to match the belt lengths from the old to the new before you put it on, o'reilly gave me the wrong belt at first, i had to go back and get a 14 x 1035 mm...
