Rear Disc's.
What would it take to convert a 92 RS to rear disc's?
Re: Rear Disc's.
That would be pretty easy (At least I think so) since the V6 model have discs on all four wheels.
So basically you just have the get the parts from the V6 and have them installed.
However how to do it and how much trouble it is, I will leave to people who know more about the mechanics than me
Re: Rear Disc's.
I was thinking it would require the rear spindles, calipers, disc's, hoses, and pads. Does it require the whole a-arm assembly?
Re: Rear Disc's.
this question has been asked and answered before but here ya are. apart from replacing everything on the rear axel to make it disks you need to keep in mind that the GS models came with a larger master cylinder because it takes more force to clamp disks than it does to push drum shoes. The assembly that holds the wheel bearing and axel may have to be replaced because you need bolt points for the calipers. Flexible hoses you may as well change to braided stainless steel - an excellent mod in my opinion. A good pair of rear disks will set you back about $75ea and the rear calipers, if you get remanufactured ones loaded about $90 +$50 core charge each. plus all the other pieces could end up rather expensive but I hope I managed to answer some of your questions and concerns.
[ August 22, 2002: Message edited by: Maddbuck ]

Re: Rear Disc's.
what about if you get the galant vr4 brake upgrade and of course you have to modify it to work for the front and transfered the old ones on the front to the back and all the parts from it go with it. then just put the upgrade on the front. i know you need some more parts buit i think it could be done. plus you want bigger brakes in the front than on the back otherwise your gonna cut the a-- end loose. thats what im planning on having my shop do for me. but hey its just an idea. ill let you know what they say about doing that. Re: Rear Disc's.
They'll say too much of a pain in the a-- and not worth it in the end. Changing from drum to disc will have very little difference. Most people feel the drums are better in the rear.

Re: Rear Disc's.
Before I converted my rear brakes I was going to just paint them. But after seeing vehicles with painted drums, it made the vehicle look cheap. Especially with nice rims. After the mod, I notice better braking but not really a big difference. I also bought slotted and drilled rotors which gave a better look to my 17's. I would recommend doing the swap if your serious about your MX.
later,
Dee.
