FYI, the stock info on BPs is wrong. I dont know why but put them on a dyno.
You'll end up with about, depending on tranny loss correction factor, 125hp, and 125 lb-ft of torque.
then add a 2.0" cat-back (200 bucks from any exhaust shop), RX-7 VAF (got mine for 55 bucks), and advance the base timing and youre looking at about 135hp and 130 lb-ft of torque.

why not just go for the BPT since it has a turbo on it stock. im not sure which one you have but someone can help you if you dont know but if you have the 4 wire TPS then the swap will be much easier but if its the 3 wire then thats where the problem is according to derrick. but everything just bolts right up (tranny, axles, motor.) just piggy back most of it and use a s-afc, 2nd gen rx-7 fuel pump, run the intcooler pipes and just the obvious things with an enginge swap.

I keep hearing differing stories with the transmission issue. There is one guy who did the swap who just used his stock transmission and said it bolted right up, except for that notorious right axle problem. Here is his web site:
web page
Then, I'm told from Corksport that the Protege transmission is needed.
I have a 92 RS with the F25M-R transmission, which is the same as the guy above.
Basically, I'm wondering if the new transmission is even necessary.
Also, what's this TPS wire thing you speak of?

Jesse Dillow, (not me) did the swap on his Escort GT turbo.
The reason to get just the BP might be cost, as you dont need to run special computers, turbo, or anything if youre still saving up for that stuff. Also, you can just slap a turbo on there no questions asked.

protege, when you say the 5sp models have the 3wire tps...what motor are you talking about? the b6 or bp? reason is that the bpt's that corksport sells have the 4wire and i have a 94 mx 5sp with a 4wire. just trying to figure things out

and whats this i hear about having to shave the passenger side thing? how much should it be cut down? also i have a 92 rs 5 spd and im assuming it has the 3 wire tps set up. how difficult will this make the swap or is it just a matter of splicing some wires? and besides wanting a stonger clutch for future upgrades do i need to worry about the tranny?

One guy in ONT swapped a BPD [non turbo] into his MX-3 and was running with stock V6 MX-3's. It's a good stout motor that can be had cheaply [under $500 I've seen...] and has a good bit of potential.
It's no DOHC FE though :)
:)

I used to know alot about MX-3's, but not so much anymore. Oh well.
