How to diagnose A/C on a '92 GS

Bought the car in March when it was cold. Couldn't really tell if it was working. Now that the heat is hear I can tell. How do I know if my compressor is working? or do I need a recharge? What else could fail? Is there something specific that fails on the K8 A/C?

If you want to know what´s going on with A/C.<BR> it has to be charge first, do a leak test, only then a diagnose can be done.

thank you I never knew that, If I get it charged how long does it take to leak out?
