Out of Hibernation! Got some stuff done this weekend.
Replaced my rear strut mount, no more clanging. Damn NEK roads :x
Installed some Glass Euro Headlights I picked up from jovian2k. And reinstalled the subs.
Bridged this time. They are ridiculous when bridged. I can only turn the amp up half way before it shuts off.
A bigger amp or turning it down are my options. I turned it down as my ears are ringing plenty!
Next is oil change for the motor and transmission. When In there I am going to address the excessive shifter play.
Also going to run my wideband wires when on the lift. Hopefully she'll be megasquirting soon!

Got the lights actually functional now!
I wanted a plug and play solution so I had the freedom to switch back the stock headlight harnesses.
I bought male 9004 plugs (hard to come by!) and female H4 plugs as that is what the euro headlight uses.
I ended up having to drill through the access cap. Sealed her up with rtv should be fine.
I ran the wires out and made a nice little plug and play harness.

Plugged into the stock harness:

Got my audio setup tuned right in too!

Nice new Kenwood head unit. All the bells and whistles.
Image

New Kenwood components in the front. My stock driver's side speaker wasn't even plugged in, and looked like crap.

Old vs. New:

Installed (I did put the stock grills back on too, can't even tell visually)

This setup sounds SOOO much better. You can hear more than just the subs now. It's nice bluetoothing my phone and having all the different audio source options.

Now back to the serious stuff. Megasquirt, possible disty issues, and solid motor mounts. Stay tuned!

Got my front strut bar to fit!! A little grinder action on the Millenia manifold made it fit just right. I have to remove it to add brake fluid, but oh well. haha. Got all new strut mounts on the way and H&R lowering springs. She should sit and handle a little nicer soon!

Love having the stock option:

Been slacking on the updates! I got a mazdaspeed3 that has been taking the spotlight lately. Poor bleu...
Anyways heres what I've been up to:

H&R lowering springs, 1.5 - 2 inch drop. functional stance for my roads:

Less wheel gap:

And the front when I was demoing the JDM lip:

Image

I decided that I didn't like the lip. I am selling it and mazdagirl is hooking me up with another gs one!

(Half of the old GS lip got attacked by a beaver  )

Then the "fun" activities happened. I continued troubleshooting my ECU issues. And determined my disty was acting up. It took a few times to start in the morning, and was running kinda erratically. The cam sensor signal is dropping out aswell so I was really hoping that a new disty would solve it.

Found the cap all damaged, from the metal striking the cap:

I was excited to see a "smoking gun". It does run better now, but the cam sensor issue is still there.
I was going to troubleshoot that issue more but then....

This little fucker failed on me when going 70 on the interstate:

Image

And made my timing belt look like this:

Image

Carnage:

Image

I coasted her to the side of the road and got a tow home. Then the driveway repair commenced:

Image

New belt:

New waterpump and pulleys:

So now I got her all timed and running. BUTTTT I think I am off a tooth   Dammit.
It idles great but feels underpowered, and stutters above 4k. So Idk Its drivable at least so I can get it to my parents in the good garage. She is getting the rims all fixed up currently. One rim is cracked and leaking and they could all use a resurfacing. Oh well, that's what project cars are for! I have shifter bushings and motor mounts to install once the engine issues are sorted. And I also scored a hatch shade, and got the hatch tinted so its cooler and more private. Anny ways... Stay tuned.

Got my rims all repaired. The front passenger had a crack, and they all had some curb rash. They came out nicely.

VIDEO ^^^
She is finally back on the road banging like a champ! :freak: 8)

Chris came over and helped me get her timed right. It was off a tooth.
It runs great now. I'm pumped to run her this summer. I did the manual tensioner mod.
That should prevent future mishaps....

I did have to knock the lip off the oil pump for clearance.

Big thanks to Chris.

Nice

I tried this mod last week but messed it up. :freak:

Could you give some tips?

How deep do you drill
What kind of drill bit do you use
What kind of bolt do you use ? thread/lenght

Nice car. Love the colour.

Your mods and issues are so similar to mine -

KL31 cammed ZE
Curve neck IM
Relocated the coolant overflow same
Similar CAI setup
I also have an innovate wideband

- my clutch slave has screwed me over too. Actually a few times now and I just pray for less traffic and rev match to change gears
- My timing belt took a s--- on me too because of that stupid tensioner as well!
- Now using a King 6 manual tensioner, much like the cheaper mod you're doing (I should have saved the money and modded an old one!)

@WhiteFinish
Not sure of the drill bit composition. But you wan't a 5/16th hole to use a 3/8 x 16 tap/ bolt
Also make sure it's a 2" long full threader. It's only like .5" to drill through. A vice and hand drill work well.
I recommend a small pilot hole before stepping up to the 5/16.
Side note: I have all the fixings for a spare one. And would build you one for cheap.

@RX8SE3P
Thanks man. I love my mx-3's.
