Which engine oil? Tyre pressure?

Post by mazda999 »

Hi, everyone!

What kind of engine oil should I put in my MX-3 with 1.8 V6? 5w40, 10w40 or 10w30?
MX-3 has 180'000 km on clock, and is living in Europe with temperatures as follows, from -30C (once or twice during winter period) to +35C (during the hottest summers), but usually it's from -15C to +25C.

Also, what tyre pressure needs to be in 205/50 R16 tyres?

For the tires I'd say what's listed on the door jamb as factory. Adjust up or down at most 2PSi depending on how rough/easy you want the ride to be, or what you'll be doing with the vehicle; track, drag, etc.

Use recommended weight oil in the engine by manufacturer. Usually 5W-30. If your engine ticks, fix it. If it leaks, fix it. If it burns oil, fix it. No sense in masking the problem by going with a heavier weight oil; you'll do more damage in the long run.

 I reckon most the K series V6 ticked right off the production line. Good luck with that :freak:

I've been running 5W-30 forever since my rebuild. 0/5/10W-30 will all work similar. They're all 30 weight in essence (when warm). Since your coldest temps are rather cold, I'd go 5w30 or even 0w30.

205/50/16 - I'd go anywhere between 32-36. Whatever feels best.
