[FS] 1993 MX-3 GS - SE 89,000 miles, all stock - SOLD

Post by ganue »

Folks, up for sale is the family's third SE. The previous two have gone on to live long lives for their new owners. Sadly, it's time for this one to go too and complete our exit out of MX-3's. I've contributed a lot to the boards and have gotten even more. I'll plan on keeping an eye on you guys and lamenting every time a Raspberry Metallic car is plasti-dipped or worse.

No I will not part ANYTHING out. Don't ask. The interior stays with the car.

Bottom line: We got this car put together for my daughter to have at school 350 miles away. But you guys know that maintaining a car from that distance is expensive and problematic and that our cars need mild attention from time to time. There is nothing really wrong with the car at this point (I'll list a few little things later) but a little thing here and there coupled with the stress of a 6 hour drive for my daughter, no air bags, no ABS, etc. led me to just give her my GTI. I've been and will continue to drive it every day but have different vehicle options at this point once this one is in the rightful hands of another excited owner.

I'll point you guys to my vehicle log for pictures and details and load a few more in the coming days. Go here to see the full story on the car:

http://mx-3.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=80888

OK - here are the points you guys wanna know (or should)

GOOD

1) 89,000 real miles on the car, original engine, and original 5 speed manual trans. Have a CARFAX that I think I can load. The story of the car is in the blog
2) Clean title, no liens. Ready to sell. I just sign and date and you are on your way.
3) Everything 100% functional (except mentioned below) including an R-12 charged A/C system that is still working at about 80%+ capacity
4) Needs absolutely nothing. Tires are nothing special but amazing in the rain.
5) Even have the factory floor mats. The silly foam backing is starting to come off making a mess but they look great otherwise.
6) For the real zealots out there, it includes the double stack center console. I don't have the inserts, unfortunately, so your mileage may vary regarding how that Big Gulp will stay stable at high g's.
7) In the last 11,000 miles the following have been replaced:
a) New Fuel tank (now has 13 gallon capacity and I am easily getting 380 miles per tank)
b) New Fuel and brake lines to rear (genuine Mazda parts)
c) New Front calipers, rotors and pads
d) New Rear rotors and pads
e) Used but new looking rear suspension less shocks from an AZ car - look at the blog
f) New Mazda OEM distributor ($400)
g) New OEM timing belt, tensioner, pulleys, water pump, coolant and thermostat (at the dealer - $1700)
h) New Corksport shifter bushings
i) New OEM shift knob
j) New OEM parking brake cables
k) New battery
8) The rear cargo cover is functional but the dowels that snap into the trim are not quite in good shape anymore. This cover is much better than I have seen on most, but not 100%.

BAD

1) Small oil leak - seems to be on the rear valve cover seal. Leaves about 2-3 drips a night.
2) Small trans leak at the shift boot. Just never got around to fixing it.
3) RR tire has a very slow leak - about 5-6 psi per month. Never got to that either.
4) A recent development is that the manual control for temp seems to take its merry time returning to cold. It always goes back to cold, just takes a few minutes.
5) Rust. Read the blog. The car seemed to have sat on top of a damp location for years. When I got it, I unloaded about 2 lbs of damp dirt in both front fenders behind the mud flaps. This caused the fender to rust from the inside out. Look at the pics in the blog. There is also a small hole in the RR corner in front of the rear tire. Everything else is darn near minty.

I really want this car to go into the hands of someone that respects the vehicle and our community. Thus, it is for sale only on the forum and the Facebook group. For now.

Message me here but a faster response is a text or call to my phone at 248-eight five four - 4974

Car is in Waterford, MI (a safe suburb of Detroit for those that don't know!!!). No tire kickers. No drives without showing some class before you come see the car. I'll be re-reading this and updating from time to time. This is still my trusted daily driver so miles will climb slowly over time.

Beautiful car man. Just started a new job. If no one takes interest in it in the next month, I'll definitely be making my way out to Michigan

Relaxing the firm price folks. Please make some offers. Need this gone before the white stuff falls. Driving a 2005 Mazda 3 SP23 sedan now (that's also going to be for sale soon) - so the car is basically parked.....I'll end up keeping the one that doesn't sell.

The rust is a bummer. But it's from sitting not from driving. PO's had the vehicle sitting outside for years and drove it very seldom. When I got it the first thing I did was remove a couple pounds of really fine dirt from inside the front fenders. Not sure how it accumulated but damp dirt sitting there for years took its toll.

Folks - I'm ready to start taking some serious CASH offers. Have a vehicle I am looking at buying and could use the cash. Otherwise I'll be using the SE as my daily driver.

Only trades I'll accept (I'll add cash) are for little AWD vehicles like a great condition, well equipped Pontiac Vibe or Toyota Matrix, even looking at a little Suzuki SX4 - something like that. As a lower priority, have you got a very trusty Outback and live South of Lexington, KY (no rust is the point)? Got a manual Impreza RS25 that you are done with and aren't charging Rice Tax?

PM your ideas. No trucks - no Jeeps....looking for North of 25 mpg....

Otherwise I'll just keep the ole girl...

Mr. Daninski asked great question offline that deserves some clarification here.

The vehicle did not sit ON dirt - it just accumulated behind the front wheels from normal driving (apparently on silt) and sat there. To be clear, the rockers are in great shape and solid aft of where the dirt sat.

The car is solid. Please buy me....need an AWD something or other for the predicted crappy weather......I'd hate to drive the MX-3 through a bad winter. It spent last winter in Kentucky and took on no additional salt stress. I can't guarantee it this year.
