Crazy thought

Post by mazdaspeed23 »

Hey guys.

When I tell you my idea most of you might think im crazy or cant be done...

But here it is, I've been really really thinking about doing some major changes to my mx3 regarding transmission and standard, What I've been thinking about is changing from stick to paddle shift. From what I have been learning and where the research has led me is that really the only thing that has to be changed is the tranny from manual to SAT ( semi-automatic transmission ). take the clutch out, add the paddle shifters, I think the biggest problem will be 1. finding the tranny that will fit the ZE, and 2. getting it to fit in the engine bay with the ZE.

Before I jump into this, id really like to get some of your guys opinions on this and if you think it might work or might not work and why?

Thanks guys, Look forward to hearing your opinions on this

There used to be a few companies that would do this for about 5-7K USD back in the day. Some of the rally 323's had them. There was one a while back in AUS on ebay that sold for like 4500. It can be done, I have not seen it in an MX3, but it is possible.

you wouldn't happen to know where I can get some information on the transmissions they used for the 323's do you? I would assume they would probably be close to the same as the mx?

Well in theory yes. The G series 323 FWD and AWD trans share the same gears factory. There was a company in Australia that built them in the 90's. But the best bet now days would be to find a trans that does what you are looking for it to do, make sure it rotates the same direction. Then have a custom bell housing, and axles made.
