2003.5 Mazdaspeed Protege lsd....

Post by kulluminati777 »

I understand that they fit perfectly because the protege uses the G-series tranny (or a variation of it). I also understand that the first generation of LSD's (among alot of epic fails that came out on the MS protege) are prone to malfunction and a uprated or second gen LSD was released or you would have to weld your 1st gen LSD. My question is....has anyone used this LSD??? or know of anyone who has put it in there MX3? like could i take the LSD and tranny to any shop in the world and they would think they were made for each other already? With the Mazdaspeed one working could a Mfactory bolt in as well (its WAY cheaper then the MX3 one   )

Gro Harlem did the MSP LSD. There was a whole how-to on iMazda that included the 5th gear swap, but that forums been down for a while apparently...

LSD needs to be used with 4.11:1 gears unless you swapped out the ring gear on the diff. Also need to slightly modify the diff or the speedo gear to fit. Indeed the first revision was known to break, the 2nd was suppose to of beeen fixed.

I had a Rev2 that (along with ZX2 gears) that was welded and balanced, but never got installed sadly.

2nd gen MSP LSD is not that great and WILL break around 300HP. An MFactory or Quaife would be a better investment (if you can find one for less than a left nut).

ZX2 gears are nothing special. The G(lass) transmission is fragile, as are derivatives of it. If you're concerned about breaking gears, just find a crap ton of spare trannys and swap them out whenever necessary.

oh no i will never see 300hp, unless i went with my plans of a supercharged DE. I am actually only swapping to a KLZE and i am staying N/A. So im sure the cheaper (by about 500 USD) would be a better choice. Especially if if hold up to 300HP.

300hp, but how much torque, the MSP's are turbocharged, and 300hp is probably 300ish in torque with a turbo.

Quaife has a lifetime warranty, worth the money if you manage to break it.
