I LOVE YOU!!!

i have this engine sitting in my basement, but before i build it up i wanted ot maek surei wouldnt have to go standalone!!!

one thing, do you know if that would be pretty much the same for the manual version? except of course the tranny controls wouldent be there. as soon as i buy a manual BP ecu we can trade pics to see the differences or similarities

If you are going to use a BP ECU you will need a BP wiring harness - If not you can use the B6DE ecu and wiring harness with some minimal modifications. The procedure should be more or less the same for manual B6DE to manual BP conversion.

Intake Air Temperature Sensor mod

Since i have the (partial) obd2 ECU i can connect a laptop to the ECU and log a whole bunch of data while driving. I took a look at the data one day and realized that the intake air temperature reading was all over the place. There were no fault codes and the sensor checked out as per manual. So i decided to verify the readings with a digital thermometer setup hooked up to my laptop (with the sensor kinda in the same place as the maf). As suspected - the ECU readings were way off - it was reading over 200F while the temp actually was 70F. I tried another MAF i had lying around - it read close but still not accurate (130F instead of 70F). Since a new MAF ($250) was out of the question - i decided to improvise.

The manual has the same specs/procedures for both the IAT and the coolant temperature sensor. So i cut the wire that comes from the IAT and connected it to an extra coolant temperature sensor and mounted it right next to the filter. The ECU is now reading temperature perfectly and hopefully the engine is running ok. I havent noticed a major power boost - but i have noticed a consistent power output and smoother running engine overall.

Moral of the story - if your IAT is toast - this is a simple mod that can save you $250.

If you auto-store has a cateeurioelog (spl)... you can get a GM IAT sensor for like 22bux...mount it in your intake right in front of the TB and wire it in...

I looked up the GM IAT sensor resistance values - it didnt seem to be compatible with what our ECU would be looking for.
The coolant temp sensor is also around $20 (in my case i had one lying around) and its made to be compatible with our ecu.....

i was actually just looking at those the other night and it showed a new gen bp but shows 1990-91 or 91-93 but deff not it. ya one says 750 for it and the other is about 500 but says "can be used as long block only" found some on car-part.com but not sure if all 95 protege motors come with vics because i cant get a picture of the engine.

Use the 'search' dude. The answer is there. And don't clutter up a guys worklog that hasn't been posted in in about 4 years. Besides, he no longer visits the site.
