Clutch inspection/replacement
I was wondering if someone could post FAQ step-by-step clutch inspection/replacement for V6 mx-3s. This would be very helpful for people that haven't done it or to clarify people that would like to do it but are not sure how to exactly proceed.

As for clutch assessment...it has a lot to do with experience and feel. If you have obvious slippage it means the material on the clutch disk is getting thin and the pressure plate can't squeeze it hard enough to maintain friction. Chatter usually indicates a broken spring or cushion (on a stock unit). Weird sticky engagement indicates a problem with the throw out bearing. It might only need a good greasing but if you're going to go to the trouble of doing that, unless your clutch is new just replace it all while you have the tranny out.

Not much to add but the obvious. The clutch disk is what usually wears out and it is impossible to inspect until you've got the transmission out and the clutch pressure plate removed. At that point its best to replace everything you can so you don't have to remove the transmission again for a long time.
Tips: Replace or have flywheel machined. When flywheel is off replace the rear main seal.
If the inside of the transmission housing is oily and you suspect it is gear oil then consider new / used / rebuild transmission since you at least need to replace a shaft seal.

There is a clutch inspection plate, and with a mirror, you can check the clutch's condition... if you know what you're looking for.
Main way to tell is to do a hard 1-2 shift and see if it feels right. Other theories I've heard are to put it in 4th at a stand still and let out the clutch, and see if it stalls.
