Rear garnish hinges disassembly.

Post by Demonic1 »

So I found a 94 RS in the junkyard today. Started grabbing parts that I thought I could use. The garnish flappy thingys (can't remember the name of them) hinges were perfect. So I grabbed them as pocket loot. When I got home I was looking at them and decided that I could make cast/machined aluminum versions, but that requires being able to take them apart.
I took my old broken one and used it for a test to see if the pin could be driven out. (the tan one) Being 19 year old plastic, and that the hole didn't go all the way through, I broke it. Good thing it was already broke. And I had my parts assembly.
So, I now know how it is put together... I just need to know how to get the roll pin out without breaking the things.
Any ideas on how to get a roll pin out without breaking the plastic?

The only thing that comes to mind is heating it up slightly, and using the increased flexibility to separate the 2 pieces before it cools. If you can do it without melting the hinge, that might be enough to get it off.
