possible engine swap

Post by sway_528 »

I currently own a 93 mx3 with the 1.6 SOHC that has 230k miles on it and the other day the trans decided to get stuck in 4th gear and is going to cost somewhere in the 1500 to 2000 price range to repair. instead of dumping that much on an old motor i was thinking about swapping a 1.6 DOHC from a 94 mx3. I called around to a few different auto shops and they all said that it couldnt be swapped and i was just wondering if it can be swapped and what, if any, modifications would need to be done to make this happen. thanks

It would cost you more to swap in the 94-95 B6 than it would for you to swap in a Protege or Kia BP motor. You could go for a B6 our of a 323 if you wanted same motor you have in it now. the BP motor is plug and play with the 92-93

Stock wiring harness will work, but you will need to get a BP ECU and a BP VAF. If you decided to go with the B6DE you would have to change just about everything. ECU, wiring harness, convert the VAF to a MAF..... on and on.

1st gen Protege they are like 91-94 or a 94-96 Kia sophea

I would ask them for the VAF, ECU, and AXLES, to go with it. Depends on the wrecker some do and some dont.
