Looking for new tires...

Post by Ryan »

I know there's a million threads, but looking for some more opinions none the less.

I've picked out a few I'm interested in:

General Exclaim UHP
Yoko ES100 (if they still make them) or S.drive
Kumho Ecsta SPT or ASX or 711 or 712 or Mx or Supra

Looking in the sub $150/ea range, and stock GS size, 205/55/15. Will be a summer only tire, spirited driving and lots of straight miles.

I had the Kumho Mx up front and the 712's in the rear. I like the combo, worked very well. Ran them as 205/40/17

If you are looking for economic solution i would suggest Nankang ns2
Highly recommended...
I am wearing 205 45 16 and i have no problems for two years now..
The tread is like new
The Handling is greatttt.
Their are more designed for dry streets. In wet streets you must be a little careful but nothing excessive ..

I know you believe that you understand what you think I said but I'm sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Nankang is alright.. I dont really like hard compound chinese tires though.

I have had avs-es100's before.. Stiff sidewall and soft compound = Great handling but poor ride quality and tread wear. Japanese made tire.

I have heard the S-drive is a great tire, but have never used.

On my 16's I had some kumho supra 712's and they were stiff sidewall again, but were a good tire. They are a korean tire and they are of decent quality

Out of the bunch I would probably choose the Generals which are made in France, they are a good all round tire with a interesting tread pattern. They should also be pretty cheap, my second choice would be the S-drives and third would be the Kumho SPT or ASX.

It all depends on how you drive tho.. Stay away from Chinese tires, old tread designs and hard compounds.

If you had 16's or 17's i would say go for the Yoko ES100 Have them on my MX now and i love them. although when tread gets thin you can notice the lack in grip. Great tire Would buy another set.

I have run Proxy 4's on my Eclipse for years, great great street tire.

off of your list i would go with the Kumho's, performance tire at a great price. eveyone i know that has them loves them.
