Crooked Steering Wheel

Post by highlife »

1993 4cyl, anyone else experience the steering wheel sitting crooked when driving straight?
I had the car aligned about a year ago and asked them to correct the crooked steering wheel. I figured the PO had replaced tie rod ends and screwed it up. They did the job and the wheel was straight, now although the car is still aligned, does not wear the tires and drives straight down the road, the wheel is crooked again exactly like before. Almost like the steering rack has shifted.???????????

thanks to all

there was a recall sent out a while ago about that. They put the wheel on crooked from the factory.

Get an alignment. If you get it back still crooked, tell them to fix it.

Or, loosen the nut off, and then while driving, pull off the wheel and readjust it.

What kind of answer were you looking for?

If the wheel is crooked to the left, drive in very tight right hand circles for 10 minutes, and it should go back straight.

There is nothing to loosen in the steering system, its all mechanically attached. Your alignment shop did a hack job, or you hit a badass pothole and you need another. If its not just bent out of alignment, you may have a work out component.
