Say what???? These are non-interference engines. That means if the timing belt broke the valves won't contact the pistons. No damage will result. Make sure the wires on the disty go to the cyls. as indicated on the disty cap.

im 100% positive that the wires all go to the proper cylinders according to the disty cap and the timeing belt is not broken nor do i think the mechanical timing is out.

So its apparent there is simply no answer :roll:

Why don't you practice diagnostics instead of just thinking that its all good.

If your harness is out of a 1992, the distributor you need is T0T57051 or T0T57072. I, personally, have never come across a 57072. So lets just say you need an 57071.

Just because the K8 disty works doesn't mean it will work well. It could be out of spec, or very close to just plain old being toast. The ZE distributor, like mentioned, has an external coil, so no duh it won't run on a harness that is looking for an internal coil (because its just not there).

Go find a properly working T0T57071 out of a 1992/93 GS. The firing order is shown here

http://www.mx-3.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=62510" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Time the vehicle, reset the TPS, IAC, etc. If you can't seem to time it correctly, (ie, the notch won't even get to 10º when you max out the disty both ways) the belt is out.

If it STILL runs like crap, check for vac leaks.

ok so i know that my diagnostics are horrible....... thats why im on here for help, but if the klze came out of a perfectly runing car and the timing belt was never changed it shouldn't be out of time should it? i have tried 2 distributors out of perfectly running k8s and both do the same thing. i know the firing order of the engine and i know that i have the wires all hooked up correct. i do understand why the KLZE disty wont work. but if i can't get the K8 distys to work will buying a T0T57051 or T0T57071 fix my problem???

Cars can jump mechanical timing for no apparent reason. A peice of the timing cover gasket (stupid a-- idea, Mazda) fell into the gears on my black GS. Jumped the rear head 3 teeth and the front head 2 teeth. It ran like a sack of poop, and I couldn't advance the timing far enough to hit anything past 5º advanced. It backfired out the intake, too.

so basically if i can't get it to work right with the distributor that i have then its probably out of mechanical time?

I can't tell you what it will be, but mechanical timing is a possbility.

There are many possibilities. You could go through the troubleshooting section in the online manuals.

Ok..let me tell you a little story..a true story. Its about a guy (me) who just had a KLZE installed 4ish weeks ago. The engine was installed and after a little problem with fuel lines being mixed up, it started and once the maf sensor was installed it ran and idled very very nice. I went for a 1km drive and the oil light came on and the car started running very rough. I tried driving it to my work which was 1.5km away and I made it .75 of a km. After getting the car towed to my house I immediantly went to work on the timing belt. Guess what...it was 5 teeth out(on the crank). The mechanic told me the belt looked brand new during the installation process and he said I shouldn't replace it. So I didn't. Big mistake....After taking this timing belt off I put on the timing belt I had already purchased for the swap. Set the notch in the crank 1 tooth out as advised by this link http://www.docstoc.com/docs/35257669/Fo ... Eric-Leska" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; reinstalled the rest of the belt without removing the upper idler pulley...and after reinstalling the tensioner...pulled the pin. The belt didn't correct itself. Why? because I did a good job and had it properly tensioned by hand. I had to pull the tensioner off again..repress it. reset the crank to the 12 oclock position and reinstall the belt, the tensioner, and pulled the pin. BINGO...timing was set. Car immediatly started...although my oil light problem later manifested in a crank bearing failure. Unless the bearing failed due to lack of oil from another issue...I'm not sure as of yet.

But yes..its quite possible your timing belt jumped a few teeth. You should always replace it when doing a swap as the engine is out and its very easy to do. I knew this but my mechanic convinced me otherwise...my fault for not doing things the right way the first time.

Rubber will degrade with time so a mechanic saying it looks fine was in error. unless you know how long a belt has been in place assume it bad and change it. eg You buy a 2006 car with 65k, well the belt is max 4 years old but a ZE produced back in the 90's who knows.

T0T57071 and T0T57072 are 92/93 distirbutors. Thats what you need, thats the only thing you care about. Can be K8 or KLDE, doesn't matter. Thats, Probe GT, MX-6 V6, MX-3 GS, 626 V6.
