I'd say for a ZE 140-150HP at the wheels at best if everything was perfect and the engine was nearly brand new. And no one ever has every single thing perfect with these swaps. No one even knows what the correct wiring for a real ZE since they came out in MX-6's from japan. Who knows how many small differences there could be.

No way, 140-150 is a WEAK ZE. A strong ZE will average around 185whp.

I'm assuming you are adding MSnS to that equation...

The portland guys dyno runs showed that Jesse's was around 180 with MSnS and everything else... Dana and I were averaging around 150-160... with regular ECU's (k8, probinator, and kl36)

OK guys, this is kinda on topic. I followed this guys advise and now I'm turning at least 265hp at the wheels. The qual over head cam decal really did the trick. http://webspace.webring.com/people/ta/andrew501983/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Umm,,,I'm kidding. :wink:

I know you believe that you understand what you think I said but I'm sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Ok so commonly there's a 20% drivetrain power loss, now.... say somehow you only had a 10% loss. With 200HP AT THE CRANK and that's off a brand new engine, you'd lose 20HP, because 10% of 200HP is 20HP.

That makes your power an absolute max of 180HP, with that ridiculously low 10% loss of power to your wheels, on a brand spanking new engine from mazdas assembly line.

Then remember he has a STOCK exhaust system, stock everything actually, apart from the kl31 ecu. I'm totally sure the KLZE motor will run super good off that awesome exhaust designed for a 1.8L engine. :shrug:

The only thing I can think of, in your defense, is that most American dyno's are inflating results and they give you big numbers so you think your car is more awesome than it really is. I've never seen anyone in australia make more than 115-130KW off a ZE with every bolt on you can imagine. But in America, 130-150KW seems normal with all bolt ons.

I understood from a stock ZE, as in no work on the internals. I'm talking about stock motor with max bolt-ons. Funny tho, with MS, 200whp out of a ZE is possible last I heard.

Those numbers used to be realistic, but those motors are getting old how it seems. I think I'm just too old-school, where ZE's could run high 13's and DE's mid-14's....

I had 160 whp with just bolt ons before I installed my turbo.

Ive seen other people get 145 whp on stock ze with bolt ons. This being on a 90 degree day at 4000 feet elevation.

Its more than 10% loss at drive train. Many factors in the dyno.

most cars lose 20% from crank to the wheels. depending on transmission gearing and oils and especially between a freshly rebuilt engine and a well broken in one. with a freshly rebuilt engine you may lose more because the bearings are tighter, and with a broken in engine there loose not in a bad way but broken in so the friction is less. but yea stock ze before any built ons should be around 150 - 165whp. which either way compared to some cars is still respectable :)

just my to cents :)
